The story

An Echizen bamboo doll is one split cane, dozens of shaved slivers, and a robe made of bamboo sheath.
I. Splitting the cane
The carver stands the cane at the bench edge and brings the knife down along the grain; it parts node by node into long strips.
He says the bamboo tells you where to cut.
II. Shaving and assembling
The slivers are shaved thin enough to let light through, then glued piece by piece into crowns, flutes, fans and boats; the shavings curl up on the bench.
The number on a falling bamboo lantern is the weight of the spin (base game ×2 to ×20).
III. To the exhibition
Stamp 4 exhibition seals and the shoji open on a room of figures. Over the next 15 spins the multiplier keeps growing (×2 to ×500).
3 more seals add 5 more spins.
IV. On the stand
The finished figure is set gently on the stand and the carver opens his palm to present it — the sheath glowing amber in the window light, ready to go.
