In ancient Yamatai of the Yayoi age, before the morning mist has cleared,
the queen ascends the high altar and catches the first ray of dawn in bronze.
I. The Shaman Queen of Yamatai
Ancient chronicles tell how the warring chiefdoms of early Japan united under a single ruler—a woman named Himiko, who governed through the way of spirits. Dwelling deep within a palisaded palace guarded by watchtowers, she was served by a thousand attendants while almost no one in the realm ever beheld her face.
Only at daybreak did she step onto the high altar to greet the rising sun with polished bronze in her hands. The game board is shaped like her round bronze mirror, with shorter outer reels curving around a tall centre where curved jade beads, earthen vessels, and bronze blades spin.
II. Beams of Dawn Across the Bronze
Whenever a polished bronze mirror lands on the entry reels, Himiko raises her ceremonial mirror above the board and sends a beam of golden dawn straight down the leftmost reel holding a mirror. Every cell the beam crosses—including the mirrors themselves—turns into wild light for that spin before ways are scored.
Striking a bronze mirror bends the beam through a sharp right angle across the grid, while the sacred beast mirror found in the bonus splits a single beam into two rays travelling in opposite directions, carving a blazing path of wilds across multiple reels at once.
III. Turning Light and the Sun Ring
Every reflection across the high altar strengthens the blessing of the morning sun. Each time the golden beam turns at a bronze mirror or splits at a beast mirror, the spin's turn multiplier climbs one step higher, multiplying every ways win formed across the illuminated board.
If enough mirrors sit in alignment to bounce a beam around a closed loop until it meets its own trail again, the light locks into a blazing sun ring, instantly jumping the spin multiplier to its highest sacred value for that entire round.
IV. Ritual Bells of the Sun Maiden
When the attendants ring enough bronze ritual bells across the board, the torches flare and the Sun Maiden free spins begin. Throughout this ritual, Himiko fires a beam of light down the reels on every single spin, and every bronze mirror or beast mirror that lands sticks in place for the rest of the round.
As sticky mirrors accumulate spin after spin, the beam weaves through an ever more intricate labyrinth of bronze and gold. It is the game's theme, not a promise: the mirror rites of Yamatai belong to ancient legend, while every spin's outcome is still decided by the RGS random number generator.
